Russell joined Anna Freud in 2018 to teach Core Skills as part of the CYP IAPT therapy programme. Previously he contributed to a number of psychology training courses in the South East and worked with core front line staff to increase mental health awareness and practical clinical skills with children.

Russell’s core research explored the therapeutic relationship and the biological measure of Heart Rate Variability as a possible indicator of ‘Emotional Contagion’ within therapy sessions.

Russell trained as a Counselling Psychologist and subsequently worked for 11 years in the NHS as part of a CAMHS team. In 2012 he joined a voluntary sector organisation to lead a team providing support for children experiencing trauma. He then worked as the clinical director for the organisation providing mental health services to children and families across two counties.
Russell continues to work in private practise specialising in treating trauma. He is an accredited EMDR Europe Consultant and BPS registered supervisor.
