The Health Education England (HEE) Manchester Children's homes project

The AMBIT-R has shown promises as an approach to supporting residential children’s homes staff in their role. There were very high levels of positive feedback about the content of the training being applicable to their work, the organisation of the training and its delivery. The study also identified some important ways in which the AMBIT-R could be improved, especially by reducing the amount of material covered by training to leave more time for practice, and by reducing the amount of academic language. Based on this feedback the training was adapted before being further delivered. Finally, the evaluation suggested that it is possible to train staff working in residential care homes to co-deliver the AMBIT-R; and that the programme can have a positive impact on the practitioner’s reflective capacities.

In future, it would be important to verify these improvements on a much larger sample, as well as whether these changes are sustained over a longer period.
