Smith Webb: Supporting the Centre with Style

If you Google search Smith Webb, the two words that follow are “Be Kind”. For the two entrepreneurs from Essex, this is not just a slogan. Through good deeds they are demonstrating that business can not only be ethical, but also a force for good. We catch up with two of our most recent sponsors who are supporting the work of the centre with style.

So, who are Smith Webb?

Smith Webb was founded by Jo Smith and Chloe Webb who, between full time work and juggling five children between them, designed and created a clothing brand that is not only downright dapper, but also allows them to throw even more support behind mental health charities like us! The dynamic duo have also taken a keen interest in anti-bullying initiatives.

Jo and Chloe learned about our work through our partners at Heads Together who told them about how we support children and families living with difficult mental health conditions. The two were keen to get behind us and not long after, £5 for every jumper they sold from a selection of women’s jumpers was going straight to support our work.

We caught up with Jo and Chloe to ask them what inspired them to take this kind of action.

"At Smith Webb, wanting to help mental health and anti-bullying charities was our aim from the outset. We both have extended family members that have been severely affected by mental health issues, and both of us have also experienced perinatal and postnatal anxiety. We also have five children between us, and we have witnessed firsthand the impacts of bullying on one of our own children's mental health. We felt that mental health wasn't spoken about as freely and openly as we would like, so our aims were two-fold - to raise awareness of these issues, and raise funds for our charities. We created a brand around our ethos of kindness - being kind to each other, and to yourselves. The thought that just a simple smile can brighten some's day if they're feeling low - we want to be that smile."

The Smith Webb ethos of caring and sharing does not apply only to supporting mental health charities through sales, but it has also influenced their designs. Their products carry motivating monikers and supportive slogans, which may be particularly relevant to people living with mental health difficulties.

Where will the money go?

The money we receive from Smith Webb sales will go towards funding our Schools Outreach Service. This therapy service supports children, young people and families who are struggling with a range of complex mental health, behavioural and emotional difficulties in the classroom. The service provides opportunities for children to explore their difficulties whilst supporting them to re-engage with their learning.

The sessions are offered at the school they attend, and our experienced Schools Outreach Therapists are deployed as schools need them. This includes delivering individual sessions, family sessions and multi-family groups.

We support 20-25 primary and secondary schools in London every year and pupils feel “listened to”, “able to talk about the bad things and clear them” and “get their points across and not feel ashamed or embarrassed”. Parents too report being confident that their children are “getting the help they need in a very good way”.

Jo and Chloe’s support makes this change possible. We want to take this opportunity to thank Smith Webb, not only for supporting this vital service, but also for liking almost every update on our fledgling Instagram. You can find the much more accomplished and aesthetically pleasing Smith Webb Instagram here. And don’t forget to buy your jumper here.

Smith Webb are also supporting the work of Mind, CALM, Cancer Research UK and Anti-Bullying Pro.

We are delighted to receive their continued support and can’t wait to work with them more in the future!
