About this webinar

Learning begins in and around the home from the earliest months of life through warm and responsive relationships between babies, parents/carers and wider family members.

Start for Life and Family Hubs are an opportunity to co-produce accessible and connected support with and for families – including on the importance of rich early home learning.

This webinar will be an opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges in developing local placed based approaches to supporting home learning by and with families. We will hear from the National Centre for Family Hubs, National Literacy Trust and Speech and Language UK about good practice from around the country, and on policy and research on supporting children under 5 and their families.

Aims of this webinar

Topics we will explore include:

  • What is the evidence base on effective communication with families on early home learning?

  • How can support for early home learning build on the strengths of families and communities themselves (including those from racially minoritised backgrounds and those living in poverty) e.g. through Literacy Champions?

  • What are the barriers and enablers to developing a shared vision and inclusive relational approach across the workforce - education, health, social care, voluntary, faith and community organisations?

  • How might a shared Theory of Change generate evidence that more parents feel more confident to play, chat and read with their young children to support the best start in life for babies and support the wellbeing of the whole family?
